Patriot Day 9-11... Never Forget



Patriot Day commemorates the catastrophic events of September 11th, 2001. On the morning of that day, the World Trade Center towers and Pentagon were attacked by terrorists crashing jet planes into them. They sought to harm the USA, and in the process, they killed 2,977 innocent people.

In the wake of the World Trade Center collisions, many brave men and women from the emergency services risked their lives to try to help rescue victims of the attacks, and of them 411 lost their own lives attempting to fight fires and rescue people.

Patriot Day is recognized by US law as the official day of remembrance for these tragic events, and has been observed every year since. Each year on this day, American flags are flown at half-staff to honor and commemorate those lives lost. The US President asks fellow Americans to observe a moment of silence at 8.46am (Eastern Daylight Time), the time of the first plane collision into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

While the events took place within the USA, the shock and grief experienced in response to the attacks was shared across the globe, and for this reason Patriot Day will be observed not only in America, but all over the world.

Shoot Straight honors all those who have given or lost their lives for our Country. May God bless them.

Happy 4th of July, 2013! Honoring and Celebrating Independence Day!

Boy Battling Cancer Enjoys Treat at Shoot Straight Tampa

Last week we had some special guests at Shoot Straight Tampa.  Ethan is a spirited 11 year old boy who has faced many challenges during his young life.  He is one of thousands of kids these days that are dealing with childhood cancer.  While his prognosis is not great, his spirit is indomitable.  Early on he decided that there were some things he wanted to do, so he created a "bucket list", determined to live life to the fullest. 

Ethan comes from a family of U.S. Marines, including his mother Maria, so he is naturally interested in the shooting sports.  One thing that was on his bucket list was to shoot a mini-gun.  While Shoot Straight didn’t have one of those guns available at the time, we did have a few other treats for him to try.  He started out on the range at Shoot Straight Ft. Myers with an AK-47.  He enjoyed that so much that when his friends and family were in town for a Rays game, his Mom set up more range time at Shoot Straight Tampa.  He brought his best pal Lea, who is also battling this terrible disease.  Together they experienced the thrill of shooting an MP-5, an Uzi and the FN P90, under close supervision of course, and only after a thorough discussion of firearm safety and range rules.  The kid’s Moms got to try a few other handguns as well. 

Afterwards, Shoot Straight treated them to some autographed baseballs and pictures, and some other mementos to remember their fun time with us.  Everyone had a great time.  And, we enjoyed the smiles on the faces of two children who were able to, at least for a morning, get away from the challenges they face every day, to just have fun being kids.  Ethan and Lea are now on a U.S. road trip with his Mom, continuing their journey and checking off a few more items on his list. We truly wish them well, and as the saying goes... "may the wind be at their back, and the road rise up to meet them".

I. The 30th day of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village, and hamlet churchyard in the land. In this observance no form or ceremony is prescribed, but posts and comrades will in their own way arrange such fitting services and testimonials of respect as circumstances may permit. We are organized, comrades, as our regulations tell us, for the purpose, among other things, “of preserving and strengthening those kind and fraternal feelings which have bound together the soldiers, sailors, and marines who united to suppress the late rebellion.” What can aid more to assure this result than by cherishing tenderly the memory of our heroic dead, who made their breasts a barricade between our country and its foe? Their soldier lives were the reveille of freedom to a race in chains, and their death a tattoo of rebellious tyranny in arms. We should guard their graves with sacred vigilance. II. It is the purpose of the Commander-in-Chief to inaugurate this observance with the hope it will be kept up from year to year, while a survivor of the war remains to honor the memory of his departed comrades. He earnestly desires the public press to call attention to this Order, and lend its friendly aid in bringing it to the notice of comrades in all parts of the country in time for simultaneous compliance therewith.

Supporting Our Community - Brandon Boys & Girls Club Trophy Winners on Team Shoot Straight!

On May 4th, the Third Annual "Bill Carey Sporting Clay Tournament" was held at Fishhawk Sporting Clays in Lithia. The tournament is held for the benefit of the Brandon Boys & Girls Club. A team was sponsored by Shoot Straight Tampa and consisted of a staff member, family & friends, all sporting their 2nd Amendment Tee Shirts. It was a beautiful Spring day where over 20 teams participated. Team Shoot Straight did well and took home a trophy. It is proudly on display at the Tampa store. Everyone got to have fun shooting clays, while helping raise money for a very worthy group. Thank you to the participants, organizers and all those who helped raise funds for the Brandon Boys & Girls Club.


A note about the group: The Boys and Girls Club is committed to impacting the community through investment in our youth. It's not only a positive environment for kids to go after school--it's a gateway to hope and opportunity. The club offers the boys and girls who need them most a chance to learn, excel, and feel safe while preparing them to be productive citizens in the future.
